Blackburn Demands Explanation on Decision to Fund Sanctuary Cities

Marsha Blackburn

Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) joined 10 other Republican Senators in demanding Attorney General Merrick Garland explain his decision to reinstate funding for sanctuary cities and states.

The new policy enacted by A.G. Garland will reverse policies implemented under President Donald Trump with the goal of curbing incentives for illegal border crossers to settle in so-called “sanctuary cities” with a stated policy to flout immigration and legal residency laws.

The letter sent by the group of Senators questions the analysis of the Department of Justice (DOJ) in ending these policies and criticizes Garland for his lack of transparency.

“We are also troubled that this decision was made without transparency, and continues to be shrouded in secrecy. While the public has not been provided access to your memo effectively endorsing sanctuary policies, this memo appears to have been shared widely with mainstream, liberal media outlets,” the letter reads.

The orchestration of this new policy complements many other Biden administration decisions to allow for illegal immigrants to enter the country. Further, it will allow sanctuary cities to operate with little restriction.

“Sanctuary city policies are dangerous and a threat to public safety. These policies prevent law enforcement officials from cooperating with federal immigration officials, and allow dangerous, violent criminal aliens to walk the street without fear of deportation,” the letter added.

Blackburn’s letter goes on to ask questions about the specifics of the decision made by Garland.

“It is the responsibility of the DOJ to ensure justice is done, particularly for families who are victims of crimes in sanctuary cities,” it ends.

Previously, Blackburn has continuously criticized President Joe Biden on his handling of the border crisis. She recently spoke out against the Biden administration using Tennessee as a landing spot to transport unaccompanied migrant children from the southern border to places across the United States.

I just wish she would keep her promises to Tennesseans and voted for the voter integrity act with Ted Cruz! Instead if putting Tennesseans first she voted for warmonger/RINO Mitch McConnell snd the swamp over her promise to Tennessee! Marsha has been in Washington since 2003!! Is your life any better? Just more federal debt and she continues to put the DC swamp ahead of her state! Time to retire swamp queen Masha! Disappointed voter

Senator Marsha, we would not need sanctuary cities if the U.S. would make Central America livable again for these refugees by undoing over a century of damage that U.S. foreign and military have inflicted over the region. Quit supporting military dictators, quit supporting kleptocratic plutocrats, quit supporting death squads, quit supporting right-wing drug gangs just because they are anti-communist, and start supporting egalitarian human rights there. Then, I bet you that most Latinx people will want to LEAVE the U.S. in droves to return to their Caribbean and Central American homelands. End of problem!
